The Level of Academic Ambition and Its Relationship to Academic Adjustment Among a Sample of Secondary School Students in the Municipality of Brak Al-Shat

Abstract

    The study aimed to identify the level of academic ambition and its relationship to academic adjustment among a sample of secondary school students in the Municipality of Brak Al-Shati. It also sought to determine the significance of differences in the level of academic ambition and academic adjustment based on the variables of gender, academic year, and academic specialization. To achieve this, a random sample of 70 male and female students from Brak Al-Shati was selected out of a total population of 2,102 students. The study utilized the Academic Ambition Scale developed by Mohamed Boufatih (2005), after verifying its validity and reliability, along with the Academic Adjustment Scale developed by the researcher. The descriptive-analytical method was applied, and several appropriate statistical methods were employed.

The results revealed that the students in the sample demonstrated a high level of academic ambition and academic adjustment. Moreover, a strong and positive correlation was found between academic ambition and academic adjustment across the questionnaire’s dimensions. The results indicated no significant differences between male and female students in terms of academic ambition. However, significant gender differences were found in academic adjustment. No differences were observed between academic years in the level of academic ambition, while significant differences existed in academic adjustment across grade levels. Furthermore, no significant differences were found between students of scientific and literary specializations in terms of academic ambition or academic adjustment
