An analytical study of the content of the history book for the seventh grade of basic education in the State of Libya in light of the values of citizenship

The research aimed to determine the extent to which the citizenship values included in the 7th grade History textbook of the State of Libya. The researchers applied a descriptive approach using the content analysis approach. An analysis form consisted of (3) main areas and (36) sub-values was used. The three main areas are, political, economic, and social values.
The findings of the research showed that the History textbook for the seventh grade contains (1192) national values. Among them, the political values which comes in at first place with a number of (405) values, the economic values came in second place with a number of (400) values, while the social values ranked third with a number of (387) values. It was also observed that the values of the three fields were mentioned in close proportions and frequencies. In conclusion. the research results showed that the Libya’s 7th grade History textbook does include the citizenship values.
The researchers recommended that teaching History using modern teaching strategies such as active teaching strategies, would motivate students to apply History facts and citizenship values in real life situations in order to prove their opinions, arguments, and affiliations, instead of merely memorizing facts without deep comprehension and life application
